The Radisson community

Radisson is the world's northernmost French-speaking community and the only non-Indigenous community north of the 53rd parallel in Quebec. Named after one of the first French explorers to survey these northern territories, Radisson was founded in 1970 to accommodate workers from the Société d'énergie de la Baie James, a subsidiary of Hydro-Québec. Today, the community continues to welcome hydroelectric workers, but also a growing number of tourists eager to discover the northern wilderness at the end of James Bay Road.
